On The New Paper

hi everyone,

my sister was featured on The New Paper today (04/1/2009). I could better understand the article as previously Wan Bao wrote in Chinese. (I didn't do well in Chinese classes back in Secondary School).

I would like to thank Crystal from The New Paper for the article written. I have no intention to be rude when you made the call as I have been receiving many anonymous calls ever since my mobile number was published on the papers.

All I can say is that the money spent on the obituaries was well spend. 2 half page obituaries, 2
articles written in Chinese and 1 written in The New Paper.

Cheers

Firstly, my condolences to you and the family on the passing of your sister Shandy. My uncle passed away on November 29, 2008 in Singapore. He was suffering from Oesophageal cancer since April 2008. We miss him dearly. I can feel the pain of your sis when I read her blog. My Mum gave me this blog address. They will be in our hearts forever. I hope you and the family doing well there. Be safe & Take Care.

Hi Edmund

I have just read the news of your sister,Shandy in the Newspaper today. I cried...

I was also 30 years old and diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer in June 2008. Just completed my 6 cycles of chemo..

I completely understand how she felt and the pain that she had gone through.

I really hope that all cancer patients could stay brave and positive like shandy... and I am also looking forward to stay in this world as long as I can live..

To the Sim family: my absolute condolences for your profound loss. May God bless all of you in bereavement. Look up to the heavens, for Shandy is already one of the shining, lovely angels.

To Shandy: I'm sure heaven's a pretty place full of joy and elevated from all pain and agony you had been through.

I am a nurse who's been deeply touched by your positive thoughts and energy as I read of your battle against cancer. As a tough nut, it isn't the Korean dramas or lovey TV soaps that get me tearing, it is what I see and learn from patients. I'm sure you must be proud to know that I have cried on more than a pack of tissues.

From your true life experiences, I got reminded of myself as a student. Young and naive, I was posted in a medical oncology/haematology ward where I had close contact with cancer and leukemia patients. I often labelled these patients "fussy", "rude", "bratty", "demanding" etc, clearly knowing that they were in fact on steroids which made them temperamental, very concerned about contracting infections and had every right to be paranoid about their frail lives. I grudgingly passed the 2 weeks in that ward, missed the chance to nurse my poor patients on the emotional and psychosocial aspects, never stood in their shoes to see their illness in a different light.

You've made me feel so shamed and realise how immature and self-centred I was... And I can't stop thanking God for this angel that has taught us not one, but many lessons in life...

I remember Shandy from when she was my instructor in NPCC in Tanjong Katong Secondary School too. We were the last batch of cadets for her batch before Shandy's batch of instructors passed the baton on to the next batch of instructors.

The one thing that impressed me most deeply was her ability to liven up any situation she was in. Her vivaciousness was such that a decade later, i could still remember her with fondness, as one of our favourite instructors. Even though our paths never again crossed after that, i'm honoured to have known her for that short period of my secondary school days.

I would also like to share a memory of an art class in my secondary 2 school year with you, when Shandy's art work was shown to my class. The task given to us was to create a poster to discourage smoking. The teacher (whom i can't even remember now) showed us Shandy's poster, which she had kept as an example for future classes. Shandy had executed a very nice circular poster with phrases to discourage smoking. If i did not recall wrongly, some of the phrases were "smoking stinks! smoking kills!" and then "smoking sucks!" I distinctively remember the teacher pausing at that point and telling us something to this effect, "and except for the swearing, this is a very very good example of what to bring out in the poster".

Just thought i would share this little memory which has stayed with me for a decade. :)

Fondly remembered always. God bless.

I knew Shandy while she was a Bank Branch Manager at OCBC Katib Branch. I was a staff under her branch.

My heart froze for a moment when I read the name Shandy Sim on the Newpaper today. And then a brief prayer that it would not be her.

I remember Shandy as always positive, having great sense of humour and always up to challenges. I also remembered that she had a great singing voice from that 1 KTV session that I had with her. Those who know her would also remember the very unique necklances that she wore.

My condolences to Shandy's family for the loss. My prayers are with Shandy and her family. May her positive engery remain with all her family and friends and her jovial personality remain forever entrenched in our hearts.
